Product information


The Automatic Oxygen Index Tester is a high-precision combustion performance testing device developed strictly according to ISO 4589-2:2017 and ASTM D2863 standards. It is widely used to determine the Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of polymer materials such as plastics, rubber, textiles, foams, and composite materials; that is, the minimum oxygen concentration required for a material to maintain stable combustion in an oxygen-nitrogen mixture. The instrument uses an imported high-precision oxygen sensor, mass flow controller, and fully automatic ignition system. The testing process is started with a single button, and data is displayed in real time with automatic calculation of the LOI value. Its repeatability and accuracy far exceed those of traditional manual instruments. It is suitable for hundreds of materials including PE, PP, PVC, ABS, silicone rubber, flame-retardant fabrics, polyurethane foam, cable materials, and laminates. It is an essential core fire performance testing instrument for quality inspection agencies, third-party laboratories, and flame-retardant material R&D and manufacturing enterprises, helping customers quickly assess the flame retardancy rating of materials and meet international certification requirements.

Product Application


The ISO 4589-2 fully automated oxygen index analyzer is primarily used to evaluate the combustion characteristics of materials under controlled conditions (such as oxygen-nitrogen mixed gas flow). It is suitable for self-supporting materials (vertical strips or sheets, thickness ≤10.5 mm) with an apparent density ≥100 kg/m³, and some honeycomb materials with a density <100 kg/m³. Test results are expressed as an oxygen index (OI) value, used for quality control and fire risk assessment, but not directly for describing actual fire scenarios.

The testing range is accurate to individual product categories (based on standard applications and industry references), including but not limited to the following:


Plastic products: Polyethylene (PE) sheets, Polypropylene (PP) strips, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films, Polycarbonate (PC) sheets, ABS plastic rods.


Rubber materials: Natural rubber (NR) sheets, Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) strips, Silicone rubber (VMQ) sheets, Fluororubber (FKM) sheets.


Textiles: Cotton fabric, polyester fiber fabric, nylon fabric, aramid fiber yarn.


Foam and Cellular Materials: Polyurethane foam (PU) boards, polystyrene foam (PS) strips, polyethylene foam (PE) sheets (applicable to parts with a density >100 kg/m³).


Composite and Laminated Materials: Glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) laminates, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) strips, laminated wood panels.


Railway and Building Components: Plastic insulators, rubber seals, plastic pipes, rubber hoses, building plastic sheets.


Note: Testing is applicable to products in solid, laminated, or cellular form. Sample sizes are typically 80-150 mm × 10 mm × 4-10 mm. Flexible films require vertical support for testing. The instrument is not suitable for liquids, powders, or non-self-supporting materials.
